Explaining government policy regarding ban on imported articles, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has reiterated that there is no embargo on the import of industrial raw material or sanitary pads or diapers. Only some luxury items or non-essential goods cannot be imported, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.  

In his tweet uploaded on Sunday, the finance minister said: “There is no ban on any industrial raw material. The ban is only on some luxury or non-essential goods. And there is certainly no ban on sanitary pads or diapers (or their raw materials), which are obviously essential goods. We will issue further official clarification on Monday.

In order to halt the fast reduction in forex reserves and to bring down the trade deficit, the government has decided to completely ban the imports of all luxury items. 

During a press conference on May 19, Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that the government had decided to put a complete ban on all imported cars. 

She said there would also be a ban on importing products of sanitary ware, frozen fish, carpet, tissue papers, makeup, chocolates, imported mobiles, crockery, decoration items, shoes, weapons and shampoos.

She said imports of fruits and dry fruits would also be not permissible, adding that there would a ban on imports of unnecessary luxury bags and kitchen products.
