The Punjab government has decided to remove Advocate General Ahmad Awais from his post next week, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Sources divulge that Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has completed consultation with lawyer leaders regarding appointment of a new advocate general of Punjab.

Sources say that with the appointment of new governor in Punjab after Jun 1, the provincial government is planning to bring a new advocate general too and incumbent AG Awais will be de-notified.

Sources reveal that the provincial government wants to appoint Shehzad Shaukat as new AG and consultation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been completed in this regard.

Mr Shaukat is a professional lawyer, sources add.

Appointed during previous PTI government, AG Awais is practically doing no legal job as the new Punjab government does not support him and the additional advocate general is currently representing the provincial government in all court cases.

On April 26, the Punjab government stopped AG Awais to appear before the courts but he resorted to the Lahore High Court challenging the notification of his removal by the provincial government.

The LHC in its May 20 order directed the Punjab government to let Mr Awais work as the advocate general while ordering the provincial authorities to not stop the letter from doing his job.

AG Awais hints at resigning

While giving his reaction to the news of his removal by the Punjab government, Advocate General Ahmad Awais hinted at resigning from his post.

He said Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz illegally took oath to his office. He stated that the Lahore High Court would hear appeals against Hamza’s oath-taking on May 31. He further said that the larger bench of the court through 27-A notice asked him to help the court in this case.

After presenting my arguments in the court, I will resign from my post, the AG said adding that he too did not wish to work with this government.

3 influential law officers manage to save their jobs

Meanwhile, three influential law officers have remained successful in saving their jobs in the Hamza Shehbaz-led government.

According to sources, AAG Malik Abdul Aziz Awan, Rana Shamshad Ali Khan and Raja Arif have been sticking to their jobs as law officers since 2009.

Every time, they manage to save their jobs with the help and recommendation of influential persons in every government.

However, the PML-N lawyers have expressed their concern as how come these law officers have not been removed.

AAG Aziz Awan is working as law officer in the high court of Chief Justice.

AAG Shamshad Ali is working in the court of Justice Shujaat Ali Khan; and Raja Arif is working in the court of Justice Shahid Waheed as law officer and both are pursuing government cases.
