Teenager drowns in Jhelum River in Muzaffarabad

A 14-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Jhelum River in Muzaffarabad on Friday, 24NewsHD TV reported.

According to rescue officials, the boy, identified as Waseem, son of Qalam Din and a resident of Neelum district, had gone to the river with three other children to bathe when he was swept away by strong currents.

Rescue teams launched an operation immediately after receiving information about the incident and were continuing search activities at different points along the river till the filing of this report.

Officials said the child’s body was briefly seen floating in the water after the incident.

However, after drifting nearly 200 metres downstream, the body disappeared again beneath the river, complicating rescue efforts.

The district administration has urged citizens, especially children and young people, to avoid bathing in rivers and to exercise extreme caution near fast-flowing water channels to prevent further tragedies.
