Govt urged to further extend tax returns filing date

October 29, 2022

Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) Saturday demanded the government provide 90 days more to taxpayers for filing their returns for the submission of their income tax returns, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The last date for return filing is ending on October 31.

PTBA in a letter pleaded to Asim Ahmad, chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) that thousands of taxpayers have not been able to submit their returns in time due to technical flaws in the returns and the uncertain political situation in the country.

PTBA President Rana Munir Hussain and General Secretary Chaudhary Qamarul Zaman through the letter prayed to the tax authorities for an extension.

They requested that the taxpayers be provided the statutory period of clear 90 days for submission of their income tax returns from the day, the return is complete and the portal error-free.

The bar provided a long list of issues and lacunas faced by taxpayers while filing their tax returns and reminded the FBR that under Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance the permissible time period for filing a return is 90 days.
