Lahore’s air quality worst in world as AQI touches 435 mark

The air quality was extremely hazardous in Lahore on Wednesday as 435 air quality index (AQI) again put the city on the top of world’s most polluted cities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Indian capital New Delhi emerged as the second most polluted city in the world.

In Lahore, AQI 692 was recorded at Government College University and its surroundings.

It was 662 at Burky Road; 637 at AC Cantonment Office; 609 at Sanda Road; 575 at Allama Iqbal Town, and 503 at Askari-10.

The weather department said that the maximum temperature in the city would touch the 29 degrees Celsius mark in the afternoon, while it would remain 19 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.

The moisture level in the air was recorded at 88 per cent.

Karachi ranked as fourth most polluted city

The situation in Karachi was not satisfactory either as with AQI recorded at 173, it was at the fourth position in terms of poor air quality.

The Met Office said that the maximum temperature in the port city would reach 36 degrees Celsius, while it would remain 24 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.

It forecast dry and hot weather for the city.

On Wednesday, winds were blowing at a speed of 23 kilometers per hour from the north-east.

The humidity level in the air was recorded at 55 per cent.

Skin, respiratory diseases on the rise

Meanwhile, smog is leading to skin and respiratory diseases in people.

Children and aged people are most vulnerable to these diseases.

Doctors have advised people to avoid stepping out of their homes and wear facemasks if it is really necessary.
