Maulana Fazl, PTI agree on KP peace jirga, Achakzai as Opp Leader
PTI delegation led by Asad Qaiser meets Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl group (JUI-F) head at his residence: Fazl welcomes PTI’s national peace jirga proposal for KP: Both vow coordination in parliament and Senate polls
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has agreed with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) proposal to convene a national jirga aimed at addressing the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Both parties have also reached a consensus on nominating Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader in the National Assembly, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the sources, the PTI delegation led by Asad Qaiser met Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence, where they discussed PTI’s proposal for holding a national jirga on peace and security in the province.
Fazlur Rehman welcomed the suggestion of a national jirga. It was further agreed between JUI-F and PTI to support Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.
Sources added that the PTI delegation urged the JUI-F chief to help unite the opposition in parliament.
The PTI delegation also sought JUI-F’s cooperation for the Senate seat that has fallen vacant from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the prevailing political, national, and regional situation.
The PTI delegation included provincial president Junaid Akbar and Shehram Tarakai, while JUI-F was represented by Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, Jalaluddin Advocate, and Maulana Asjad Mahmood.
On October 21, senior politician Mahmood Khan Achakzai was formally nominated as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
The nomination request was officially submitted to the office of the Secretary of the National Assembly, Muhammad Mushtaq.
The nomination, backed by 74 opposition members, was submitted by Chief Whip Amir Dogar, former Speaker Asad Qaiser, and other senior leaders.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed opposition bloc put forward Achakzai’s name as a consensus candidate.
Special Secretary of the National Assembly, Muhammad Mushtaq, officially received the application for Achakzai’s appointment.
