Naseebo Lal clarifies she’s become a grandmother — not a mother — after viral ‘fake news’

Veteran singer Naseebo Lal has dismissed viral social media rumours claiming she gave birth at the age of 56, clarifying that she has actually become a grandmother.

The confusion began after the Punjabi music icon shared a photo of a newborn on her social media accounts, asking fans to suggest a “beautiful and unique name” for her beta (son) — a term commonly used as an affectionate reference for children. However, several Facebook and Instagram pages misinterpreted the post and falsely reported that the singer herself had given birth.

The rumour quickly spread across social media, with users flooding comment sections to congratulate her. Within hours, Naseebo Lal posted another update warning followers to “stay away from fake news.”

She officially set the record straight on Wednesday, posting, “Praise be to God, I have become a dadi,” confirming that her son had welcomed a child. She also expressed gratitude to her fans and well-wishers for their love and concern.

Naseebo Lal, whose career spans over two decades, is one of Pakistan’s most celebrated playback singers. She has sung in both Urdu and Punjabi for numerous films since 2000. In recent years, she gained renewed acclaim for her Coke Studio Season 14 hit Tu Jhoom, performed alongside Sufi legend Abida Parveen.

She also collaborated with Aima Baig and Young Stunners on Groove Mera, the official anthem for the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League — a track that sparked mixed reactions online.

Naseebo Lal’s clarification follows a similar case earlier this week, when Abida Parveen’s team had to deny false reports about the singer’s health, highlighting once again the growing problem of misinformation spreading unchecked on social media.
