Two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire between militants and security forces in general area Esham, North Waziristan District, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The media wing of military – ISPR – stated that during an intense exchange of fire, two terrorists were gunned down. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed militants, it added.

The slain terrorists remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces.

The incident reaffirms Pakistan Army’s resolve to have zero tolerance for terrorism in Pakistan and proves its determination to root out violence, the ISPR concluded.

On Thursday, three militants were gunned down in a police action in Charsadda.

The law enforcers recovered stolen weapons and explosive material from their possession.

The killed terrorists were involved in an attack on Dheri Zardar police post on January 21 in which a police official was martyred and two others hurt.

On Monday, a suicide bomber exploded himself during Zuhr prayers at a mosque inside Police Lines in Peshawar, martyring at least 101 worshippers and injuring more than 220 others including policemen.

A faction of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility of the attack.

Over the past few months, the law and order situation in the country has worsened, with terrorist groups executing attacks with near impunity across the country.

Since the talks with the TTP broke down in November, the militant group has intensified its attacks, particularly targeting the police in KP and areas bordering Afghanistan. Insurgents in Balochistan have also stepped up their violent activities and formalised a nexus with the outlawed TTP.

On January 22, a police vehicle narrowly escaped a bomb blast in Peshawar’s Badaber area. A day earlier, a policeman was martyred and two others were injured when unidentified assailants attacked a police post in Dheri Zardad locality of Charsadda.

On January 14, a deputy superintendent and two constables were martyred when militants, armed with automatic assault weapons, targeted the Sarband police station on the outskirts of the province’s capital, Peshawar late at night.

In the backdrop of rising terrorist attacks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Security Apex Committee at Governor’s House in Peshawar on Friday (today).

The meeting will be attended among others by Chief of the Army Staff General Asim Munir and ISI Director General Lt-General Nadeem Anjum.

Chairman joint chiefs of staff committee and Navy and Air Force chiefs, and head of other sensitive agencies will also be in attendance.

The top-level security huddle will deliberate on the situation arising out of the suicide attack inside police headquarters in Peshawar in which 101 people mostly police officials were martyred and over 220 were injured.

The inquiry report into the terrorist strike will be presented in the Apex Committee meeting and important decisions will be taken to crush the terrorism in the country.
