Pakistan FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi tested positive for coronavirus

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been tested positive for coronavirus.

Qureshi announced the grim news through his twitter account but remains in high spirit saying feeling fully energetic and strong.

“This afternoon I felt a slight fever and immediately quarantined myself at home. I have now tested positive for Covid 19. By the grace of Allah, I feel strong and energetic. I will continue to carry on my duties from home. Please keep me in your prayers.”

Shah Mehmood Qureshi is the second high profile minister from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet who has tested positive for the coronavirus. Earlier, Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid had been tested positive for the virus.

The number of coronavirus cases officially reported in Pakistan increased to 221,896 after another 4,087 people tested positive for the virus during the past 24 hours, shows the figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Friday morning.

The same period saw 78 new deaths, raising the overall toll to 4,551 in the country. Most of these latest deaths were recorded in Punjab where 35 people died of the virus while the number reported in Sindh was 31.

Meanwhile, there is some positive news too as the number of people recovering from the infection is now greater than the active cases. There are 103,722 active cases in the country while the number of recoveries stands at 113,623.

On the other hand, 2,479 coronavirus patients are currently in critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals across the country.
