The new prices will be implemented at 12:00 midnight. After decline in oil prices in the global market, it was expected that the price of the petroleum products in Pakistan would also be decreased.

Opposition wants cut in petroleum prices

On April 22, PML-N MPA Rabia Nusrat submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly urging the government to provide relief to people in the light of the free fall in global petroleum prices. She demanded the government to decrease the petroleum prices by Rs40 per litre in Pakistan.

“Despite the record decrease in petroleum prices globally the authorities in Pakistan have not made a significant decrease in POL prices,” the resolution stated.

Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) raised the demand for bringing down oil prices following the international market rates.  “Oil price dipped down in the international markets, but the government has been looting people by selling the oil at a high price,” said Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.
