Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq calling for radical steps to protect workers from starvation because of the coronavirus situation, has proposed fixing the wages of a worker at par with the salary of the Prime Minister in keeping with the spirit of the Madina state.

The JI chief gave the suggestion while talking to President National Labour Federation Shamsur Rahman Swati, on the eve of the May Day.

He also proposed reducing the difference between the lowest and the highest wages/ salaries to only six in order to narrow down the difference between their living.

Expressing total dissatisfaction over the labour law and their application, Sirajul Haq said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had himself stated that almost eighty per cent of the workers were not registered. He also called for extending the jurisdiction of labour laws to several other sectors which were presently out of its hold.

He said that the weaknesses of the labour laws should be removed. He also demanded overhauling of the government machinery dealing with labour.

The JI chief said that social security must be made compulsory to ensure that all the workers got education and health facilities.
