Pakistan names its spymaster Lt Gen Asim Malik as National Security Adviser

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik as National Security Adviser in the wake of the security situation on the border with India, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel. 

According to security forces, the Director-General of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, has been given the additional charge of National Security Advisor. 

Muhammad Asim Malik, HI(M) is a Pakistani three-star general and the current Director-General of ISI, a position he has held since 30 September 2024. He is the first PhD holder to be appointed Director-General of the ISI. 

Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) after the retirement of Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum.

General Asim Malik earlier served as Adjutant General in GHQ, who has previously commanded the Infantry Division in Balochistan and the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan. 

He has also received the Sword of Honour in his course, whereas apart from this, he has also been posted as Chief Instructor National Defence University (NDU) and Instructor Command and Staff College Quetta. 

Lieutenant General Asim is also a graduate of Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies and has also served in the Military Operations Directorate before his current assignment.
