Maryam says rescue and relief operation going well in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday chaired a meeting to review the flood situation and rescue activities across the province, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Speaking at the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said that performance of her entire team during the flood was commendable. She said, “I appreciate the performance of the administration as all institutions are working tirelessly for the flood victims.”

She said that provincial ministers were visiting the affected areas, explaining that the situation worsened due to the continuous rain. She said that India opened spillways due to which the rivers overflowed, but the local administration rescued the flood victims in time.

Maryam said it was not easy to deal with the flood water. She said that rescue teams saved millions of lives and added: “I appreciate the performance of the administration as around 100,000 people were moved to safer places.

The Punjab chief minister said, “We made a 5-phase plan in view of the flood. At least 450,000 people were rescued.” She said it was the biggest rescue operation carried out in the history of Pakistan. She said that Jhang, Multan and Muzaffargarh may be affected by floods. Also, floods may hit Okara, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal and Kasur in the coming days. Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan may also be affected, she added.

The Punjab chief minister said the district administration should make arrangements for boats and rafts for the flood affected people. She said that relief operation was going well in Punjab, adding that food should be provided to flood victims.

She directed the administration to provide food, drinking water and dry ration to flood victims. She said that availability of fodder for animals should also be ensured.
