Mohsin Naqvi’s security drive delivers results as Islamabad declared safer than London and Toronto
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's hard work day and night has paid off, as Islamabad has been declared the 83rd safest city out of 401 cities in the World Safety Index, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Islamabad has become a safer city than London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul.
According to data, Islamabad recorded 27 percent reduction in crime during 2026. Suspects involved in all murder cases reported this year were arrested, and 100 percent success was achieved.
Important murder cases, including Group Captain Asim Tariq, H-9 triple murder and businessman Aamir Awan, were successfully solved.
Many important cases, including the Al Falah Bank robbery, were solved in a short period of time through professional investigation. More than 14,645 cases were registered during anti-crime operations. More than 887 absconders from justice, 1,595 habitual criminals and 944 declared suspects were arrested.
As many as 1,144 drug peddlers were arrested under the ‘Nasha Ab Nahi’ campaign, and a large quantity of drugs were recovered.As many as 1,592 accused were arrested for illegal weapons possession under the special ‘No to Weapons' campaign.Citizen-friendly policing through the upgradation of special initiative police stations was promoted.
Provision of modern facilities and an improved environment in police stations was ensured under the SAPS project.Police Station on Wheels for immediate police services to citizens and on-the-spot registration of FIRs were launched.Operational capacity of CTD, the anti-riot unit and other special units equipped with modern resources increased.
Surveillance and response capacity with the establishment of Command-and-Control Centres in Safe City and CTD were improved.Special units comprising special SWAT and DELTA Force were established.
Horse-mounted, foot and motorcycle patrol units on the Margalla Trail for the protection of citizens and tourists were established.Night patrol officers were deployed to prevent crime in commercial areas.
A modern K-9 unit for the detection of explosives and dangerous objects was established.A special protection unit for the effective protection of Chinese citizens was also established.
Safe City Islamabad, increasing its surveillance and crime prevention capacity with modern technology, was upgraded.Innovative projects, including Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Hunch Lab, cybersecurity and virtual patrol officer, were introduced.
The CASCADE Police Service Center in the Diplomatic Enclave was established.A foreign media cell to highlight the position of Islamabad Police at the global level was established.Online women's police stations were launched for the protection and empowerment of women.
The IGP Complaint Cell and Helpline 1715 were activated for immediate redressal of citizens' complaints.ITP Udan Scooty and Motor Riding School was launched for professional driving training of women.Modern traffic facilities, including ITP Facilitation on Wheels for the convenience of citizens, were launched.
Foolproof security to four international conferences and 636 national and foreign delegations was provided.Effective security arrangements for 191 VVIP movements and 682 protests and rallies were made.Foolproof security was provided to 636 important programmes, including 16 joint sessions of the National Assembly and Senate.Eco-friendly electric vehicles were included in Islamabad Police patrolling under the Go Green initiative.
