China launches “fat prisons” to combat obesity with 28-day weight-loss programs

China has established specialized weight-loss centers, popularly dubbed “fat jails,” where participants undergo intensive training programs aimed at shedding pounds within 28 days, 24NewsHD TV reported.

The centers, operated under commercial and government sponsorship, are designed to tackle the country’s growing obesity problem.

Participants stay in the camps for four weeks and follow strict physical training and diet regimens.

According to Australian social media influencer Eggeats, who recently attended one of the camps, the facilities resemble military-style programs housed in enclosed buildings, where participants are not allowed to leave without valid reasons before completing their training.

The program includes four hours of daily rigorous exercise, including treadmill running, boxing, and intense cardio, alongside personalized diet plans monitored by trainers.

Meals are measured precisely to control calorie intake. Camp fees start at less than $1,000, covering accommodation, meals, and training.

The camps are called “jails” because the doors remain locked 24/7, preventing participants from leaving unpermitted.

The influencer reported losing 4 kilograms in just two weeks.

Such programs are particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with maintaining consistency in weight-loss efforts.

China has one of the world’s highest obesity rates, with 50.7 percent of its population classified as overweight in 2020.

These camps reflect the country’s aggressive approach to addressing the public health challenge.
