Journalists boycott PA session to protest manhandling of their colleagues during KP CM visit
Minister says over 10 million people have been treated at field hospitals, clinics on wheels
Journalists, covering the Punjab Assembly (PA) proceedings on Tuesday, walked out of the assembly to register protest against the manhandling of their colleagues during KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s visit to Lahore a couple of days ago, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, too, boycotted the assembly proceedings to express solidarity with journalists.
While walking out of the House, she asked whether asking the KP CM about his performance was a crime.
She said baseless allegations were levelled against her. “And instead of seeking an apology from me, I was insulted.”
Later, addressing a press conference, Azma said that so far, over 10 million people had received treatment at field hospitals and clinics on wheels. “Last year, 84 per cent children were immunized against six diseases,” she said, adding that this year the figure rose to 90 per cent.
The minister informed that by next year, Safe City Authority would start working in all 131 tehsils of the Punjab.
She further said that pink buttons had been installed at Lahore’s 41 girls’ colleges. “There are also Women Safety Apps in these colleges through which women could lodge their complaints,” she added.
Azma claimed that compared with last year, marked reduction in crime rate had been noticed this year. “Drop in crime rate is a proof of the fact that the Punjab CM has kept her promise that she will improve law and order situation in the province,” she said, adding, “Be it the law and order situation or the provision of health facilities, the chief minister always kept her promises.”
She said that more improvement would be witnessed on these fronts in years to come.
