Probe ordered after Lahore police try to paint kite-string injury as 'domestic violence'
Taking notice of a man getting injured in Green Town locality of Lahore after a kite string slit his throat, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday sought a report from the concerned officials besides ordering a transparent inquiry into the incident, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
On the other hand, the police are trying to project that the incident was a consequence of a dispute between Owais, the man, and his wife.
A video message from Owais has also surfaced in which he is saying that he himself slit his throat with a blade following an argumentation with his wife.
On the contrary, the medical slip issued by Jinnah Hospital has contradicted the police’s version of the incident as it is clearly written on it that the man’s throat was injured after it came into contact with the string.
On the other hand, the police took Owais away from the hospital without the authorization of the hospital management.
On Monday, the government allowed the manufacturing of kites and string in Lahore from December 30, while permitting their sale only between February 1 and February 8 for celebrating Basant in 2026.
According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, the festival will be celebrated on February 6, 7 and 8, 2026, subject to strict safety measures and regulatory controls aimed at preventing accidents and loss of life.
Earlier, the Lahore district administration officially issued a notification, permitting the celebration of the Basant festival from February 6 to 8, 2026 under strict safety and regulatory measures.
DC Syed Musa Raza said kite flying would be allowed only within the district limits on the specified dates, with comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures in place to ensure public safety.
