The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Saturday challenged the election of Punjab Assembly speaker in the Lahore High Court praying it to void the election as legal requirements were condoned while conducting the vote, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The petition was filed by Mansoor Awan advocate on behalf of PML-N and allied parties’ nominee for the PA speaker Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar. PML-N MPA Mian Abdul Rauf was also among the petitioners.
The petition has made Punjab government, PA secretary and newly elected PA Speaker Sibtain Khan respondents in the case.
It also made presiding officer and chairman of panel party to the case.
The petition states that according to Article 226 of the Constitution, the election of prime minister, chief minister and speaker should be held through secret balloting. But the Article 226 was violated during the PA speaker’s election.
The petition further states that during PA speaker’s election, serial numbers were written on the ballot papers through which the identity of the voter could be revealed which is against the law.

The petitioners prayed to the court to declare the PA speaker’s election null and void and order for the re-election.
Ata Tarar says Elahi is one vote CM
On the other hand, PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar during his media talk outside LHC building along with Rana Mashhood said that Ch Pervaiz Elahi was a chief minister of one vote. He was of the view that the PML-Q had hijacked the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
Rana Mashhood said that strict accountability should be held of ‘Gogons’ and ‘Gogis’ if we wanted to save Pakistan. He said that the PTI always told lies.
