The Punjab Assembly (PA) will meet todatoday (Sunday, July 31, 2022) for the election of new deputy speaker, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Candidates will be able to file their nomination papers by 5:00 PM today.
While Wasiq Qayyum is a joint candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) for the seat, the opposition parties are yet to decide the name of their candidate.
Dost Muhammad Mazari is no more the deputy speaker since 186 members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) have already voted in favour of the no-trust motion tabled against him.
PTI’s Raja Basharat moved the motion against Mazari yesterday (July 29, 2022) after the latter’s controversial ruling in Punjab CM election case that the Supreme Court later annulled.
Earlier in the day, PTI’s Sibtain Khan won the seat of Punjab Assembly speaker in a contest against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar.
