Homes destroyed, crops flooded as River Chenab bursts banks at Head Panjnad 

Despite drop in water levels in the River Chenab at Head Panjnad, a large part of Sarwarabad locality was submerged after the river burst its banks in Uch Sharif on Thursday, prompting the locals to move to safe places on their own, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

People’s homes were washed away, while crops grown over hundreds of acres of land were inundated.

On the other hand, the administration made announcements through loudspeakers, urging the residents to move to safe places immediately.

The inflow of water at the site was recorded at 118,000 cusecs while the outflow at over 100,000.

PDMA on river situation in Punjab 

Also on Thursday, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab said that the water situation in most of the rivers of the province had become normal.

The PDMA spokesman said that water flow at all barrages of the River Chenab was normal.

Similarly, he said that the flow of water at all heads of the River Ravi, River Jhelum and River Sutlej was normal.

However, he added, there was low flood in the River Indus at Kalabagh. “The inflow of water at the site is 331,000, while the outflow 323,000,” the spokesman elaborated.

However, he said that water level in the River Indus at Tarbela, Chashma and Taunsa was also normal.

“There is low flood in Aik and Baen nullahs while Palkhu nullah at Wazirabad is in medium flood.”

PDMA DG Saif Jappa said that the fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5. “Due to rains in the upper catchment areas, water flow is likely to increase in eastern rivers and their tributaries,” he said, adding that urban flooding was feared in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan. “Landslides are feared in Murree, Galyat and other mountainous areas,” the DG explained.
