Govt has refused to become party to Aafia Siddiqui case, IHC told 

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was told on Monday that the government had not only refused to become a party to the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case, currently sub judice in a US court, but also not to offer assistance to the court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday. 

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition filed by Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, the sister of Aafia Siddiqui.

Imran Shafiq, counsel for the petitioner, the additional attorney general (AAG) and other officials were present on the occasion.

The AAG told the court that the government had decided not to become a party to the case.

Justice Ishaq inquired from the AAG the reasons for the government’s decision. 

Without telling the reasons, the AAG replied that was the government’s decision.

The judge remarked that there were reasons for any decision. “There can be no decision without any reason,” he said, adding, “This cannot happen that a person comes to the court and says that he or she has made a decision without giving the reasons.”

The court directed the AAG to inform it of the reasons at the next hearing and adjourned the case’s hearing until July 4.
