International scientists unite at Pakistan’s iconic Summer College

The 50th annual session of the International Nathiagali Summer College (INSC) concluded after a two-week-long celebration hosted under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). 

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, this year’s edition marked the golden jubilee of the prestigious global science event.

Held under the theme “Physics and Contemporary Needs,” the event attracted researchers, scientists, and PhD scholars from around the world, reflecting the college’s growing importance as a platform for international scientific collaboration.

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of PAEC, who commended the efforts to advance global scientific dialogue. The concept of INSC was originally envisioned by Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, who also served as its founding director.

Dr Salam was a strong advocate for scientific cooperation and knowledge transfer, especially in the developing world. INSC remains one of the few platforms from the Global South where scientists not only exchange ideas but also learn from each other’s experiences.

Since its inception in 1976, the summer college has been organized annually without interruption by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. Over the past 50 years, more than 1,100 renowned scientists and 9 Nobel Prize winners have delivered lectures at the INSC.

During this time, the event has hosted over 1,000 international participants from more than 75 developing countries, as well as over 11,000 scientists from Pakistani universities and R&D institutions.

The golden jubilee not only celebrated five decades of scientific excellence but also reaffirmed Pakistan’s role in fostering global academic and research networks.
