Karachi trader abducted; torture video for ransom shocks family
Moinuddin, a well-known scrap dealer and resident of Quaidabad, Karachi, was abducted during a business trip to Sadiqabad, Punjab. The kidnappers also sent the victim’s family a video showing Moinuddin naked and being violently tortured, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
The incident came to light after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Quaidabad Police Station by the trader's son, Ghiyasud Din. Moinuddin, before his abduction, had told his family that he was heading to Sadiqabad to buy scrap, which was a routine part of his business dealings.
He was known for procuring scrap from factories, government departments, and markets. Moinuddin was last seen on the 21st of June, when his younger son Zeeshan dropped him off at the Landhi Railway Station.
His family grew increasingly concerned when his phone remained switched off and he failed to reach out to them the following day.
Two days later, on the 23rd of June, the family received a voice note from Moinuddin’s number, sent by his kidnappers, demanding a ransom of PKR 20 million, along with two Rado watches and two iPhones, in exchange for his release.
