The federal government on Tuesday issued a number of notifications regarding reshuffle in the cabinet and also notifying that Special Assistant to PM on Power Tabish Gauhar will also hold the additional charge of SAPM on Petroleum, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Cabinet Division issued the notifications of the removal of Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and the appointment of Hammad Azhar as Finance Minister.

The notification reads, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (3) of Article 92 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has been pleased to approve the removal of Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as Federal Minister, with immediate effect.”

Cabinet Division issued another notification removing PM Special Assistant on Petroleum Nadeem Babar from the post and also notified Special Assistant to PM on Power Tabish Gauhar to hold additional charge of SAPM on Petroleum

It is relevant to mention that Hammad Azhar has been given the additional charge of finance and revenue affairs, and is the third finance minister appointed since Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came to power in 2018.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz also confirmed said that the prime minister has decided to form a new economic team that will come up with pro-people policies. 

He said Hafeez Shaikh has been removed because of his inability to control the inflation.  

In a tweet, Hammad Azhar said, “I am honoured to be entrusted with the additional charge of Finance by the Prime Minister. Pakistan's economy has made significant gains towards stabilisation since 2018. We shall continue to consolidate these gains and strengthen the growth momentum.”

He said, “We navigated economic fallout of Covid-19 fairly well. The world is witnessing supply chain disruptions and rise in food prices. We shall endeavour to protect our people from these shocks. With hard work and integrity, we will Insha’Allah build Naya Pakistan under leadership of Imran Khan.”
