Police in Toba Tek Singh on Saturday arrested elder brother of young girl Maria who was mercilessly murdered by his other brother and father, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The police took into custody the elder brother Shahbaz and his wife Sameera, who in their preliminary statements accused father Abdus Sattar and and other brother Faisal of sexually assaulting 22-year-old Maria and then killing her by smothering her face with a pillow.

The police said they have obtained the DNA samples of both Shahbaz and Sameera and they will be produced in court for remand.

The latest arrests were made after Faisal told police that Maria was raped by his elder brother Shahbaz and asked the police to arrest him. He also told the police about the involvement of some unknown people in the case and demanded the arrest of all of them.

While the father Abdul Sattar told the police during the investigation that he did not kill his daughter Maria but his younger son Faisal killed her sister Maria for honour.

Maria's elder sister Kausar has also appeared before the police and confirmed that her sister was brutally tortured before the murder. In her police statement, Kausar said his brother made a phone call to her at 1:00 0'clock in the night and said that Maria's condition was not well.

Kausar said when she reached home at night, Maria was not alive and her throat was strangled and one side of her face was also badly injured.

She said victim Maria was badly tortured and her nose was bleeding. She demanded that they should be given justice.

Sherry Rehman condemns brutal murder of young girl

Vice President People's Party Senator Sherry Rehman has condemned the brutal murder of 22-year-old Maria in Toba Tek Singh.

In a statement on Saturday, Senator Sherry Rehman said that they strongly condemned the brutal killing of innocent Maria.

She said that her heart is deeply saddened to hear about the heinous act of inhumane murder of an innocent woman.

The brutal killing of Maria by her brother and father is a serious violation of basic human rights, our traditions and the dignity of women, Sherry Rahman said.

She said it should not be treated as a common occurrence and its terrifying nature should not be ignored.

Sherry Rehman said that all involved should be brought to justice by conducting a transparent investigation into this murder.

Such acts of inhumane treatment and violence have no place in any civilized society, Sherry Rehman said.

So those responsible should be brought to justice as soon as possible, said Sherry Rehman.

She said our hearts go out to Maria and all affected women who are victims of such atrocities.

22-year-old innocent Maria was killed, but now justice should be done to her and her killers should be severely punished, Sherry Rahman said.
