According to details, the polling for the NA-256 constituency was scheduled for April 5, 2026. The Election Commission of Pakistan made it clear that the decision to postpone the election was taken on the request of the provincial government.

Earlier on March 8, 2026, the Balochistan government has formally requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the by-election in NA-256 Khuzdar, citing a deteriorating security situation and heightened risks to voters and polling staff.
In a letter sent by the provincial Home Department, authorities urged the ECP to defer the by-poll scheduled for April 5, warning that prevailing law and order conditions in Khuzdar and surrounding areas have become "highly alarming".
The request follows detailed assessments by the district administration, law enforcement agencies and intelligence bodies, all of which flagged serious security concerns.
Election Commission of Pakistan also summoned Chief Secretary Balochistan and Inspector General of Police in personal capacity for briefing on security situation.
