May 30, 2020 11:46 AM

Pakistan witnessed most number of daily deaths caused by the coronavirus as 78 people died in different parts of the country during the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 1,395 by Saturday morning.

In this way, the daily deaths record was broken on two consecutive days as 57 deaths were officially reported a day earlier.

The majority of the latest deaths were reported in Sindh where 31 patients lost their lives followed by Punjab where 29 people, including two doctors, died of the virus.

It means the overall death toll in different regions of the country now stands at: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 445, Punjab 439, Sindh 427, Balochistan 46, Islamabad 23, Gilgit-Baltistan nine and Azad Kashmir six.

The figures released by National Command and Operation Centre also show the number of coronavirus cases has now jumped to 66,457 with addition of 2,429 new infected persons during the same period.

Most of these reported cases have come from Sindh where the number currently stands at 26,113 followed by 24,104 in Punjab, 9,067 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,087 in Balochistan, 2,192 in Islamabad, 660 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 234 in Azad Kashmir.

On the other hand, there are 40,931 active cases in Pakistan as of Saturday morning while 24,131 patients have so far fully recovered from the infection caused by the coronavirus.

It is important to note the active cases are the difference between overall reported cases minus the closed cases [patients dying of the virus plus those fully recovering from it].

Meanwhile, the number of tests conducted so far in Pakistan has now increased to 532,037 as another 12,020 people were tested during the past 24 hours.
