CJP Yahya Afridi departs for Hajj pilgrimage

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi departed for Saudi Arabia on Friday morning to perform Hajj, and is expected to return to the country after Eid holidays, reported 24NewsHD TV, quoting sources.

In the meantime, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, is also currently out of the country on an international visit.

In light of their absence, Justice Muneeb Akhtar is scheduled to take the oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The oath will be administered by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.

Justice Muneeb Akhtar currently ranks third in the seniority list of Supreme Court judges.

The oath-taking ceremony will take place in the Committee Room located within the Judges’ Block of the Supreme Court building.
