Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his first formal meeting with newly appointed Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday said the nation is happy with his appointment. 

According to the 24News HD TV channel, newly appointed Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday called on PM Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Shahbaz Sharif congratulated General Syed Asim Munir on assuming the post of Army Chief and said the nation is happy that he has become the army chief.

The PM expressed a hope that the relationship of trust and love between the people and the army will be stronger.

He said the leadership of an able officer like him (Gen Asim) will be instrumental in furthering the professional development of the institution.

The channel reported that in the meeting between the army chief and the PM, issues related to Army's professionalism and national security were also discussed.

In the meeting, Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir thanked the PM.

This was the first meeting of General Syed Asim Munir with the Prime Minister after assuming the post of Army Chief.
