Health team assaulted in Sehwan; female worker seriously injured

A female health worker was injured in Sehwan’s Union Council Wahur after a measles vaccination team came under attack on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to officials, the team was administering routine measles immunisations when an assailant stormed the house and violently assaulted the worker.

Pari Ganir, the injured vaccinator, said she had been giving a measles shot to an infant when the attacker, identified as Niaz Panhwar, began beating her and throwing vaccine carriers, syringes and safety boxes.

The lady health worker said she was left bloodied and unconscious before the assailant fled the scene.

Speaking from medical care, Gambhir questioned why female health workers remained frequent targets of violence during vaccination drives.

She said several earlier attacks on field workers in the area had gone unaddressed, leaving teams vulnerable and fearful as they continued efforts to immunise children.

Health supervisor Shahida Panhwar condemned the assault and warned that if the attacker was not arrested promptly, staff would boycott polio and measles campaigns and stage closures of health facilities in protest.

Local authorities have been urged to ensure better security for vaccination teams, particularly in remote rural areas where resistance to immunisation efforts persists.

Police said they are investigating the incident and searching for the suspect.
