IMF programme ending next year, says Rana Tanveer Hussain

Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has announced that Pakistan’s ongoing programme with the International Monetary Fund will conclude next year, paving the way for a major reduction in electricity prices.

Speaking to reporters in Lahore on Sunday, the minister said the government plans to substantially lower power tariffs once the IMF arrangement expires.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, he stated that agreements with independent power producers (IPPs) are set to end next year, which he claimed would result in dramatically cheaper electricity for consumers. 

The minister said the upcoming shift in the energy landscape will ease the financial burden on households and businesses.

Rana Tanveer reiterated the government’s position that the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf does not have a political agenda but instead seeks to create instability in the country. 

“From staging sit-ins to dissolving assemblies, his intention has always been to push Pakistan towards chaos,” he said.

The minister further asserted that effective diplomacy led by the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal has left India increasingly isolated on the global stage. 

He emphasised that Pakistan’s foreign policy approach is gaining recognition internationally.
