JUI-F criticises Punjab govt, warns against policies targeting ulemas

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has launched a strong criticism of the Punjab government, accusing provincial rulers of attempting to pressure religious scholars and create a climate of fear, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri alleged that the government was trying to “buy” ulemas for Rs25,000, calling the move disrespectful.

 “If you truly want to support religious institutions, then waive the electricity bills of mosques,” he remarked.

He warned the rulers against assuming their authority was secure.

 “Remember, no chair is strong except the one strengthened by Ayat-ul-Kursi,” he said.

Ghauri added that he had no personal dispute with Imran Khan, stating that his disagreement was only with the policies of the former government.

He cautioned that if the poor continue to be oppressed, the resulting anger could “reach the rulers’ palaces.”

Ghauri also accused the Punjab government of creating fear to govern and provoking religious polarization.
