PFA arrests a man making oil from animal fat in Hafizabad

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) officials arrested a man in Hafizabad for allegedly producing oil from animal amputations, in what authorities described as a serious threat to public health, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday. 

According to the report, during the raid, PFA teams recovered around 1,000 kilograms of animal fat and destroyed nearly 300 litres of processed oil. Drums, pots and other equipment used in the illegal operation were also seized.

A PFA spokesperson said the suspect failed to provide the mandatory licences or documents required for traceability and production. 

Inspectors also found that the essential chemical methanol dye, used to ensure such oil is distinguishable and restricted to industrial use, was missing from the product. Records, including agreements with biodiesel companies, were absent as well.

Authorities said oil derived from animal fat can only be sold legally by registered biodiesel companies and must never enter the food supply chain. 

The spokesman warned that using this oil for cooking could lead to severe health problems. “Adulterators are a scourge for society, and such businesses must be eliminated,” he said.

He added that the crackdown was part of directives issued by the Chief Minister of Punjab to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public. 

The PFA urged residents of Hafizabad to cooperate with authorities and report any attempts by what they called the “counterfeit mafia” to bypass safety laws.
