VCs, Rectors seats vacant in Pakistan’s 35 universities for many years

Permanent Vice Chancellors and Rectors have not been appointed in 35 universities across the country for many many years now, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

According to report, Vice Chancellors of eight out of 31 federal universities have not been appointed on permanent basis.

Vice Chancellors of two out of 6 universities in Azad Kashmir have not been appointed permanently.

Vice Chancellors of four out of 11 universities in Balochistan have not been appointed permanently.

Vice Chancellors of three universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13 universities in Punjab, and five universities in Sindh have also not been appointed.

The seat of Rector has been vacant in COMSAT University since June 2023 and Professor Dr. Sajid Qamar is taking charge on additional charge.

The seat of Vice Chancellor has been vacant in National Skills University Islamabad since October 2023.

Professor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar has been appointed on additional charge at National Skills University Islamabad.

National University of Pakistan Rector's seat is vacant since April 18, 2023.

Vice Chancellor's seat vacant since 2021 in University of Baltistan Skardu, no one could get additional charge.

Rector's seat vacant since November 2024 in NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology Multan and Lt-Gen (retd) Moazzam Ijaz has been appointed as Rector on additional post.

Vice Chancellor has not been appointed on regular basis in International Women's University Bannu yet and Professor Dr. Aurangzeb Khan is on additional post.

Rector's seat vacant in Virtual University Lahore since March 2025 and Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood appointed on additional post.

Vice Chancellor's seat vacant in Cholistan University Bahawalpur since January 25, 2024 and Professor Dr. Mazhar Ayaz is on additional post.

Vice Chancellor's seat vacant in Mir Chakar Khan Rind University Dera Ghazi Khan since January 22, 2025 and Professor Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed is on additional post.

University Vice Chancellor's seat in Mianwali vacant since February 13, 2025 and Professor Dr. Zubair Abu Bakr is in additional position.

Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology Multan Vice Chancellor's seat is vacant since June 3, 2025 and Professor Dr. Tahir Sultan is in additional position.

Vice Chancellor's seat in Women's University Multan vacant since June 3, 2025 and Professor Dr. Kulsoom Paracha is in additional position.

However, working has not started on permanent appointment on these seats yet.
