511 relief camps, 351 medical units set up in affected Punjab districts

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a comprehensive report detailing the devastation caused by recent floods in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

According to the report, floods have affected 2,308 villages across Punjab, impacting over 1.516 million people. Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed confirmed that 481,000 stranded individuals were rescued and shifted to safer locations.

To address the crisis, authorities have set up 511 relief camps, 351 medical camps, and 321 veterinary units to safeguard both citizens and livestock. Over 405,000 animals have been relocated to secure areas.

PDMA shared updated river flow data:

Chenab River: Marala 111,000 cusecs, Khanki 170,000, Qadirabad 171,000, Trimmu 146,080.

Ravi River: Jassar 78,000 cusecs, Shahdara 138,000 (slight decrease), Balloki Headworks 199,000, Sidhnai inflow 32,000 / outflow 18,000.

Sutlej River: Ganda Singh Wala 303,000 cusecs (rising), Suleimanki 138,000.

Pak-India dams situation:

Reservoir levels are also nearing full capacity: Mangla Dam is 80% filled, Tarbela Dam has reached 100%, and in India, Pong Dam stands at 94%, Thein at 92%, and Bhakra at 84%.

The floods have claimed 33 lives from drowning, while two people in Lahore lost their lives in lightning strikes. Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed said compensation surveys for affected citizens and farmers are underway, as per Chief Minister Punjab’s directives.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rainfall was recorded across Punjab in the past 24 hours: Mandi Bahauddin (81mm), Hafizabad (63mm), Jhelum (50mm), Sialkot (47mm), Bahawalnagar (44mm), Gujrat (34mm), Faisalabad (32mm), Sheikhupura (31mm), Lahore (26mm), Chakwal (18mm), Gujranwala (14mm), Khanewal (12mm), and Jhang (10mm). Showers were also recorded in Rawalpindi, Kot Addu, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Kasur.

The 9th spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until September 2, raising further concerns about rising river flows and urban flooding.
