11 members of Karachi family test Omicron positive

Eleven members of a family were tested Omicron positive which resulted in their self-quarantine at their home in Karachi on Friday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The 11 members including three women and three men belonging to the same family had contracted Omicron variant Covid-19 in Karachi’s District East.

All the people have now been quarantined at their homes while authorities have also collected samples from the people who came into their contact to prevent their further spread of the virus.

The infected coronavirus patients are aged between 26 to 77 years old.

So far 44 omicrons cases have been detected in the port city of Karachi.

As per reports, officials of the Sindh Health Department said they had sent the samples of 20 people infected with COVID-19 to the Dow University for confirmation of the Omicron variant and after analysis, the Dow University confirmed that 11 people of the family, who came in contact with a female member of their family from Lahore, were infected with the Omicron variant.

Experts and health authorities warned and urged people to take precautionary measures, wear masks and get vaccinated with booster dose, if required.

Federal Planning Minister and NCOC Head Asad Umar said 70 million Pakistanis have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus.

 

Asad Umar said that the federal government has procured vaccines worth nearly Rs250 billion to make this massive vaccination drive possible. “100 percent of vaccine procurement is done by the federal government, which has provided free vaccines to all citizens regardless of which province they live in,” he added.

Asad Umar further said that amongst the federating units Islamabad leads with 77 percent fully vaccinated. ”Punjab is at 51 percent, Gilgit Baltistan 46 percent, AJK 45 percent, Balochistan 42 percent, KP 41 percent, and Sindh at 37 percent. Of the total eligible population 46 percent is fully vaccinated and 63 percent has received at least one dose.”

Amongst the Federating units Islamabad leads with 77 % fully vaccinated. Punjab is at 51 %, GB 46 %, AJK 45 %, balochistan 42 %, KP 41%, and sind at 37 %. Of the total eligible population 46 % is fully vaccinated and 63 % has recieved atleast one dose.

Moreover, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination said that Pakistan achieved the target of 70 million fully vaccinated citizens by year end 2021.
