LHC judges issue 565 judicial precedents in 2022

Forty-one judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued 565 judicial precedent decisions setting down different law points during the year 2022, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

According to an annual report issued by Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday, the LHC decided more than 156,000 cases, of which 89509 cases were decided by the LHC’s principal seat, while 38333 cases by Multan bench, 17821 cases by the Bahawalpur bench and 10687 cases were decided by Rawalpindi bench in a year. 

However, 565 judgments clarifying different law points have been declared judicial precedents during the year 2022. Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabbir gave the most approved judgments for the ruling. 

Justice Muzamil issued 37 judicial precedents, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh gave 34 and Justice Jawad Hasan issued 31 judicial precedents. Likewise, Chief Justice Muhammad Amir Bhatti issued nine retorted judgements. Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan gave two reported decisions, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan 14 and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi two. Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan gave 27, Justice Alia Neelam nine, and Justice Abid Hussain Shaikh pronounced 16 judgments which were declared as judicial precedents. Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan four, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza gave one retorted judgement, and Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi's court issued no reportable decision during the year 2022. 

Nineteen judgments of Justice Shahid Jameel Khan, nine of Justice Faisal Zaman Khan and five of Justice Masood Abid Naqvi have been declared as judicial precedents. Six judgments of Justice Shahid Karim, 20 of Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf and 16 of Justice Ch Muhammad Iqbal were declared precedents decisions while Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry's court did not issue any approved judgment for reporting during the year 2022. Similarly, 24 judgments of Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi and nine of Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfaraz Dogar were termed as precedent decisions. Justice Asjad Javed Gharal's court did not issue any reserved decision during the year 2022. 

 Justice Ch Abdul Aziz gave eight, Justice Farooq Haider issued ten and Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan announced four remarkable decisions.  Justice Risal Hasan Syed made 12 judicial precedent decisions. There was no reported decision during the year 2022 from Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu's court. Justice Asim Hafeez 22, Justice Sadiq Mehmood Khurram 33, Justice Shakeel Ahmed 5, and Justice Safdar Saleem Shahid 18 were declared reference decisions. Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad issued 28, Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem made 17, and Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq gave 22 which were approved for reporting. Justice Amjad Hussain Chatta 12, Justice Anwar Hussain 25 and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa made 14 reported decisions. Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed 20, Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi 9 and Justice Raheel Kamran Shaikh issued 12 retorted judgments.
