Five persons were gunned down on the way to a court hearing in Safdarabad area of Sheikhupura on Friday.
The police said that the motive behind the incident is old enmity running since long between Ishtiaq group and Shafi group over a piece of land.
According to police, five persons of Ishtiaq group were going to Faisalabad for a court hearing. On way they were ambushed by armed bike-borne assailants from rival Shafi Group. The accused sprayed the car with bullets, killing all the five persons on the spot.
On receiving information, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the crime scene and shifted the dead bodies to District Headquarters Hospital Sheikhupura for autopsy and medico-legal formalities.
According to police sources, Ishtiaq group had also killed two persons - a man and his son – of Shafi group one month ago.
It is to be noted that the enmity has so far claimed a dozen lives from both groups.
On the other hand, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir has taken notice of the killings and ordered the arrest of the culprits at the earliest.
The IGP also sought a detailed report from RPO Sheikhupura.
