A district and sessions court on Tuesday accepted a plea filed by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan seeking exemption from court appearance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal heard the pre-arrest bail application of Imran Khan in a case related to PTI protest outside the election commission office after its Toshasha Khana verdict.
Imran’s lawyer Ali Bokhari appeared before the court. However, the court took a break in its hearing while accepting PTI lawyer’s request that another PTI lawyer Babar Awan was busy at that time.
When the court resumed its hearing later, a petition was filed on behalf of Imran Khan seeking his exemption from court appearance on the security and medical grounds.
The petition stated that the interior minister had expressed his fear that Imran was facing security threats. It is feared that another attempt on his life could be made, the petition said beseeching the court to order the interior secretary, chief commissioner and IG police to provide security to the PTI chief.
Babar Awan requested the court to fix Feb 10 date for next hearing, informing it that by that time Imran Khan would appear before the court.
The judge remarked if Imran wanted to appear on Feb 10, then he would order the IG police to provide security.
Mr Awan, however, said that he would inform the court about Imran’s decision 48 hours before the hearing.
The judge remarked if Imran did not appear before the court on Feb 10, his bail would be cancelled adding that if the attorneys tried to seek new date, even then his bail would be cancelled.
The court after accepting Imran’s plea seeking exemption from court appearance extended his bail in the case till Feb 10.
