British High Commissioner in Pakistan Christian Turner on Friday said Eidul Azha “reminds us the importance of sacrifice” and added that the people had sacrificed so many things during the current coronavirus pandemic.
In an Urdu message posted on his Twitter account, Turner said, “We all have sacrificed much during the coronavirus [pandemic]. We have sacrificed sports like this empty ground shows.”
About the upcoming cricket series between Pakistan and England, he described it as “very important” because “it shows that we will knock the disease for six”.

Using Urdu as a mode of communication, Turner showed how an effective diplomacy can be managed as he avoided big jargons and focused on the feelings and issues common among the people of the two nations.
“We have also sacrificed by not being together with our loved ones. I am sad that I have not travelled around Pakistan,” said the UK high commissioner about the self-restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“But these sacrifices are paying off with lower corona cases in Pakistan,” he noted and stressed the need for following safety measures on Eid. “It is important to be safe on Eidul Azha.”
About the effects this pandemic has had around the globe, Turner said, “Another sacrifice is international travel. So I am pleased to say that the British Airways is resuming its flights from Pakistan.”
“This is a sign of UK-Pakistan friendship. We can count on our friends in difficult times. I wish you and your loved ones Eid Mubarak,” he said.
