Teenage maid’s condition is critical for next 48 hours: PGMI Principal   

  Principal PGMI, Ameeruddin Medical College Prof Dr. Al-Fareed Zafar has said that the condition of Rizwana, a teenage maid allegedly tortured by a civil judge’s wife, is critical for the next 48 hours, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to a statement, Prof AL Fareed said that an emergency meeting of the medical board was held on Sunday to review the ongoing treatment of the maid due to her deteriorating condition.

He said that Rizwana’s condition suddenly deteriorated on Sunday when her oxygen level dropped.

A resident of Sargodha, the girl was shifted to the LGH on Monday in the domestic violence matter when her employers - a civil judge in Islamabad and his wife - were accused of torturing her.

Her blood tests were repeated again that clearly indicated that infection in her blood has been increased, he added.

He said Rizwana has also developed a deep bedsore probably due to long period of pressure on her back.

Zafar said that one of her lungs is affected while the other has drops of blood in it.  

Zafar added that the 12-member board headed by Dr. Jodat Saleem is trying hard day and night to save her life.

The members conducted a thorough medical examination of Rizwana and conducted tests. The doctors said that the next 48 hours are important for Rizwana's health, he hinted, adding that it is feared that the girl will have to be transferred to a ventilator.

Quoting the board’s opinion, he said her wounds are old and absence of any treatment, infection in her blood increased and the complications of the disease intensified in some parts of the body.

The medical board members told the media that the girl has an infection in her lungs, which is causing her difficulty in breathing.

He said that the saturation was decreasing due to infection and clots.

 Dr. Jodat Saleem said Rizwana has been diagnosed with sepsis. She said that the cause of sepsis is infection in the blood which is affecting the whole body.

The girl's treatment is being monitored, she added.
