Spillways of Rawal Dam open following rise in water level

The spillways of the Rawal Dam in Islamabad were opened for five hours on Thursday after the water level rose to 1,751 feet due to excessive rains, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The spillways remained opened till the water level dropped to 1,746 feet. 

Sirens were blown prior to the opening of the spillways.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned the people living in the vicinity of the Korang nullah to remain careful due to a likely increase in the flow of water in the nullah. 

The Authority asked residents of the area to refrain from crossing the bridge over the nullah in the event of increase in the water level.
