In his efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif has contacted the leaders of other opposition parties and consulted with them on formation of a Parliamentary Relief Monitoring Committee.
He contacted PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on phone Tuesday and discussed his idea of parliamentary oversight over the relief efforts.
Shehbaz, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, also called Mehmood Khan Achakzai of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Siraj-ul-Haq of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hasil Bizenjo of National Party and Aftab Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, Shehbaz Sharif also wanted the government to convene a meeting of the National Security Committee to prepare a strategy against the spread of the coronavirus.
Earlier in the day, Shehbaz Sharif in a tweet also demanded setting up of a parliamentary committee to oversee the distribution of relief funds and other goods. “I urge the Speaker National Assembly to immediately convene a meeting of the Standing Committee on Health to discuss the current situation.”

In another tweet, he said “Politics is being done in the name of relief funds. Distribution of public funds through the ruling party's MNAs & MPAs is deplorable. Govt does not have any anti-corona strategy in place. The best it can do is talk, talk & talk. It ignored Opposition's sincere recommendations.”
