AJK chief justice vows swift justice, announces new courts in Samahni visit

Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Chief Justice Raja Muhammad Saeed Akram Khan on Tuesday reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring timely and accessible justice, announcing key measures to strengthen the legal system during an address at a bar ceremony in Samahni.

Addressing members of the legal fraternity, the Chief Justice emphasized that it is the judiciary’s responsibility to provide justice at the doorstep of the people. He warned that delays in the implementation of court decisions would not be tolerated and directed authorities to strictly enforce rulings, including anti-encroachment operations and decisions of the Food Authority.

Highlighting the importance of judicial independence, the chief justice instructed judicial officers to decide cases without fear or external pressure. He also cautioned that any administrative actions taken under undue influence would face strict accountability.

In a major boost to the region’s judicial infrastructure, the chief justice announced the grant of Section 22A powers to the Additional Sessions Court in Samahni. He revealed plans to establish an Additional Sessions Court in Barnala and a High Court bench in Bhimber, aiming to improve access to justice for local residents.

“The relationship between the bar and the bench is vital for strengthening the justice system,” he said, adding that lawyers are the support base of the judiciary and bar associations serve as its foundation.

The chief justice underscored that all government departments are bound to implement the decisions of the Supreme Court, ensuring rule of law across Azad Kashmir.

Upon his arrival at the Samahni Bar, the chief justice received a grand reception from lawyers, followed by a tree plantation ceremony, symbolising growth and commitment to justice in the region.
