FM Aurangzeb holds consultation on petroleum prices subsidies

The high-level consultative meeting was held under the chair of Finance Minister Aurangzeb to hold consultation on petroleum prices between the federation and provinces. Chief Ministers Sindh and Punjab attended the meeting virtually.

During the meeting, it was reviewed that the government should eliminate general subsidy and give targeted subsidy to the poor. The proposal was submitted to provide direct relief to the poor. During the meeting, it was discussed that digital system should be introduced for petroleum subsidy.

There were proposals that government should provide subsidy through cash assistance and database.

During the meeting, there was emphasis on financial stability and transparency besides ensuring accountability in subsidy system. It was agreed that the federal and provincial governments should develop joint strategy to develop framework for targeted subsidies as the government was committed to protecting vulnerable groups.
