Taylor Swift celebrates regaining rights to her first 6 albums

Taylor Swift has officially regained the rights to her first six studio albums — a milestone she described as both emotional and long-awaited.

The journey began in 2019, when music executive Scooter Braun, 43, acquired the masters to Swift’s early work, sparking a highly publicized dispute. In response, Swift, now 35, began re-recording the albums as Taylor’s Version releases to reclaim ownership and control over her music.

On Friday, Swift shared the news with fans through an emotional post on her official website. “I'm trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow,” she wrote. “A flashback sequence of all the times I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell you this news.”

She reflected on the years of near-misses and heartbreak. “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled then yanked away. But that's all in the past now.”

Swift described being overwhelmed with emotion, admitting to "intermittently bursting into tears" as the realization settled in. She ended her message with a powerful declaration: “I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made... now belongs... to me.”

She also marked the occasion with a post on Instagram, posing with vinyl copies of her albums and captioning the photo with a nod to one of her biggest hits: “You belong with me.”

Though she now owns her original masters, Swift confirmed that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) are still on the way, completing her re-recording project.

Her announcement follows recent speculation that she might pay up to $1 billion (£740 million) to reacquire the rights to her catalog. However, financial details of the deal have not been made public.
