PML-N's Saleem Khosa hits back at Achakzai, warns against dividing Baloch and Pashtuns
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary Leader in the Balochistan Assembly, Mir Saleem Khosa, on Sunday strongly criticized remarks attributed to Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai, describing them as controversial, inappropriate and harmful to inter-ethnic harmony in Balochistan.
Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, attended by the Governor of Balochistan and other PML-N lawmakers, Khosa said Achakzai was a respected political figure but certain statements he made during a recent gathering in Chaman were unacceptable.
Khosa took particular exception to a statement attributed to Achakzai suggesting that those running a "freedom movement" should continue their activities but should not trouble Pashtuns. He termed the remarks condemnable and said such language could create unnecessary divisions within society.
"Creating a divide between Baloch and Pashtuns is regrettable," Khosa said, adding that no one should attempt to sow discord between communities that have lived together for generations.
He emphasized that the patriotism of Pashtuns living in Pakistan should never be questioned and stressed that all ethnic groups in the country are equal stakeholders in its peace, stability and development.
The PML-N leader also criticized discussions allegedly held at the Chaman gathering regarding border-related issues and the formation of a personal force. He noted that Pakistan's laws do not permit dual citizenship in such circumstances and that no individual or group is allowed to establish a private army.
"Pakistan's security forces are responsible for safeguarding the country. No one has the right to form a personal army," Khosa said.
He added that Pakistan remains committed to facilitating border trade with Afghanistan and Iran through a proper legal mechanism while taking national security concerns into account.
Khosa reiterated that PML-N believes in resolving political and social issues within the framework of the Constitution and the law. He expressed hope that the overall situation in Balochistan would improve and said the provincial government, led by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, was working to address public concerns across the province.
Several PML-N leaders, including Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Jamal Shah Kakar, Muhammad Khan Lehri, Mir Asim Kurd Gilo and Rahila Hameed Durrani were also present at the press conference.
