Ayaz Sadiq stands by his words; Fazl says no one above criticism
JUI-F chief extends support to PML-N leader
Former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday said he stood by his statement and would not allow anyone to declare him a traitor, adding that he had many secrets.
“No one has the right to declare anyone a traitor,” he said at a press conference after JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman reached his Lahore residence to express solidarity after the eruption of the latest controversy over the former’s speech in the National Assembly.
PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah and senior party leader Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present on the occasion.
The statement came as the two opposition parties tried to give a unified reply amid applications being filed at various police stations in the country for registration of a case and placing banners in the constituency of Ayaz Sadiq in which he is depicted as Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan.
Ayaz Sadiq asked the government not to drag the armed forces into political fight, adding that he did not ever give any irresponsible statement. “I never gave an irresponsible statement and surely will not give any irresponsible statement in the future too.”
“When it comes to the integrity of the country, as a nation we are united and will give a befitting response to India,” the PML-N leader stressed. “All of us are patriotic Pakistanis.”
The JUI-F chief made it clear that they would not surrender their right to have difference of opinion and were against the insulting attitude. “We express difference of opinion on the basis of principles and will do the same in the future too.”
The PTI government was trying to instigate the opposition, he noted and added that Ayaz Sadiq gave a responsible and serious statement.
Fazl said they did not accept the incumbent government’s basis, which came into power as a result of rigged elections. “Don’t impose an illegal government on us,” he said and called for running the country as per the Constitution.
