Lahore has lost more than 50% of its tree cover due to rapid urbanization. The resulting pollution and smog require us to take urgent steps to protect and replenish our environment.
Maria B, the renowned fashion designer, has stood up to this responsibility by initiating a 5000-tree plantation campaign in 2020. The campaign was successfully completed with the inauguration of a Miyawaki Forest at the Lahore Railway Station by Maria B in the presence of Yasir Gilani; Chairman PHA and Director Horticulture Misbah Dar.
The forest; located in one of Lahore's busiest locations, has around 1,400 native trees to supply fresh oxygen and a habitat to precious flora and fauna where it is desperately needed.
The campaign this year included native tree plantations along the Lahore Ring Road, in various housing society parks and a school.
Speaking on the occasion, Maria B pledged to plant more trees in the coming year and urged others to do so as well so that we ensure a clean and green Pakistan for our future generations.
