A judicial magistrate court in Quetta remanded PTI Senator Azam Swati into police custody for five days on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The PTI leader appeared before the court of Quetta Judicial Magistrate 10th.

The police sought 10-day remand of Swati but the judicial magistrate granted 5-day remand.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati was arrested by Balochistan police on Friday in a case of controversial tweets against the state institutions for the second time in two months.

According to the police sources, the PTI senator was on remand in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime cell.

He had been handed over to Balochistan police after his remand ended. Balochistan police took Azam Swati to Quetta. Cases had been registered against him in Balochistan too.

In the FIRs against him, seven provisions including those from Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) had been included. Sections 109, 505, 504, 501, 500, 153 and 131 had been made part of the FIR.

On Tuesday, a senior civil judge of Islamabad extended for four days the physical remand of Swati as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought assistance from the Attorney General’s office on a petition against his possible shifting of the PTI leader to other provinces.
